MEET CHAPLAIN MIKE MCKINNEY Chaplain ( CPT)
Michael McKinney, USVNR, USC-JSC™ When I was visiting the Chino Air Show sometime in 1999, I noticed adults wear BDU's belonging to a group called the Civil Air Patrol. I went up to them and introduced myself and told him that I admired their service even now at their age. They invited me to a CAP meeting in LaVerne at Brackett Air Port and the rest is history. I feel in love with the chaplaincy. It two me almost one year to complete the registration process, but in 2001 I became a full fledged chaplain in CAP. Being trained by Maxwell AFB Chaplains was a plus! During the years I served I was named Chaplain of the Squadron, Group 1 Chaplain, California Wing Chaplain of the Year, and finally the Pacific Region Chaplain of the Year in 2004. In 2005, I was introduced to the
United States Volunteers Joint Services Command. In 2006, I joined and
became Public Affairs Officer. During that time I learned about the
wonderful mission of USV-JSC™ and had the privilege of participating as a
Chaplain in many military funerals. My wife joined me in 2007 and we enlisted Dr. Stephen Kirtley in 2007 to begin the new Chaplains Training Certificate program at Promise Christian University Today we have graduated more than 23 chaplains and 2 are service active military, 17 active in USV-JSC™. In 2008, I was asked to serve as Deputy Chief of Chaplains under the leadership of Chaplain (BG) Stephen Kirtley, USV-JSC™. Commanders always recognize leadership, and in 2010, they asked Chaplain Kirtley to accept a executive position in the organization. In 2010, I was asked to serve as Interim Chaplain of the Corp. In 2011, I was asked to be Commandant of the proposed USV-JSC™ Chaplain University. Our goal is to provide professional development for Chaplains and Officers serving the United States Volunteers Joint Services Command - online - and at regional Chaplain Colleges.
