A SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE by Dr. Adelle McKinney, Register and co-founder of Promise Christian University In every generation God raises up leaders tasked with specific callings and purposes. As a young girl, I sat under the huge wide open tent of Oral Roberts when he came to Southern California in the early 1960's. Thousands of people rushed in to experience the presence of God for a few hours as he ministered under the anointing power of the Holy Spirit for salvation and healing. Another great man of God, Morris Cerullo, was used to inspire my husband and hundreds of other young evangelists to take the message God had given them and go to the nations of the world. Our classroom, the conference, was heaven on earth as Dr. Cerullo spoke revelationally and prophetically to the students gathered. His powerful teaching on becoming a "proof producer," impacted our lives and we in turn had the opportunity to impact others. In those wonderful early days of the Charismatic renewal, God used the "foolish things of this world to confound the wise." The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship used to sponsor great conventions in which Kathryn Kuhlman, Dick Mills, and others would challenge the body of Christ in one hour segments to reach their fullest potential in Jesus Christ and go out into the world to preach the Gospel. God put it upon the hearts of great leaders to begin "non-traditional" schools of ministry and Bible training institutes for the purpose of preparing men and women for ministry. How many world changers were raised up from the classrooms of Melodyland, World Evangelism’s School of Ministries and other ministry related schools? With this in mind, Dr. Michael McKinney and I envisioned Promise Christian University as being on the cutting edge of academic and biblical training with a difference - we want to prepare men and women to be used of God to the fullest extent of their individual callings and giftings, sitting under the teachings of solid, seasoned, qualified and experienced men and women who have been there and done that! According to the "Continuing Education of Pastors," report by John LaRue, Jr., "pastors who have earned a master’s degree have an average annual household income 34 percent higher than those without a master’s." [Jan/Feb 2003 Your Church]. The 21st century is an information age. Professional ministers are required to know more and to be more than they were in the last century. Because of that, more and more pastors, evangelists and missionaries are seeking to complete their education and earn their degrees in theology, but at the same time, due to the demands of ministry both financial and physical they neither find the time nor the money to finance their continuing academic education.
